The Long Haul
While looking back at the revision graph for the main page of this site,
I scrolled all the way to the start and realized I have been working on this specific
implementation of the design since November of 2023. In other words, I have spent half
as much time just on the site design and basics of whipping up blocks to use with
Template::Toolkit
as I normally do with Wordpress. Granted, last time I
suffered with the PHP monstrosity for a year, but that was a challenge, and its one that
I mostly failed, as I simply did not continue to update the site. At least, thanks to
automatic updating and MainWP it wasn't a chore keeping
a couple dozen sites properly managed.
The question remains... will I keep this going for the long haul? Well, I finally have a system that works how I want it to. I edit files. I run a script. A website pops out. It looks exactly how I want it to look. It works how I think it should work. Best of all I have actually eliminated all custom perl code at this point. I may end up doing something a bit more clever so I don't have to catalog links to items in two or three different places, and can easily generate an RSS feed, but since I will only be updating this once every week or two after this initial burst of content is complete, it may not be worth the effort.
